The Tribute to Juan Sebastián Elcano, located in the Varadero area of the Marina (Muelle Deportivo) in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It was inaugurated in November 2019 as part of the commemorations marking the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the Earth (1519–1522). The monument pays tribute to Elcano, the Spanish navigator who completed the first voyage around the world after taking command of the expedition originally led by Ferdinand Magellan. This historic achievement transformed geographical knowledge and demonstrated for the first time that it was possible to sail around the globe.

Its location in the Port of La Luz highlights the close relationship between Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and maritime navigation. For centuries, the Canary Islands have served as a strategic point for transatlantic voyages and international maritime routes.

The monument therefore symbolizes not only Elcano’s achievement but also the spirit of exploration, navigation, and global connection that characterized the great voyages of the Age of Discovery.
